GEMINI TELESCOPE DESIGNS

The results of the first sky test of the new friction mount are available. It was done on the night of the 21st, between the passing of two heavy cloud zones, in 90% humidity and occasional thin clouds, near Cori (04010). The main telescope is a 130/900 Apo with a modded Canon 600D, the guidescope is a 60 mm F4 achromat with a QHY5c camera. We have a zoomed in drift image before polar alignment, looking to the East, +30 deg, 5 min.

It demonstrates the smoothness and precision of tracking. There is a crop at high zoom of a 5 min guided exposure near Orion (random field) and the guide graph. The frequent corrections at the center occured when a thin cloud passed over the zone. Seeing was 4/10. It gives an idea how precisely the mount reacts to guide commands (ascom pulse guide). The white halo around the telescope is the scatter due to the humidity in the air. I will make some more tests when there is a more stable clear period.
